Julian Vilarrubi

Born Leeds 1964 to a Catalan father and English mother. Educated University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, with post-graduate studies in painting at Royal Academy Schools, London. Since 1987 he has held seven one-man exhibitions in Yorkshire, Sussex, Cumbria, London and Sabadell, Catalunia, Spain. A A participant in some forty public and private group exhibitions including numerous festivals and most recently Painters and Stainers' Exhibition (2005) where he received an award. Other awards include Hatton Gallery Award, Celia Walker Prize and several commissions for National Trust Foundation for Art. Represented by Francis Kyle Gallery since 2006, Vilarrubi participated in the 2006 theme exhibition there Everyone Sang: A view of Siegfried Sassoon and his World by twenty five painters today, and Motherland: Contemporary painters from the West winter in Russia in 2008 and That gong-tormented Sea: Contemporary painters pursue the idea and reality o Byzantium in 2009.

'I aim to reflect direct experience through paint,' observes Vilarrubi. 'Through the use of colour, shape, rhythm and specially texture the painting becomes an object of experience that involves the senses with a living, tangible life'.
